Michigan parted ways with general manager Sean Magee this week, but appears close to finalizing a deal with his replacement.

Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Michigan is expected to hire Dave Peloquin as GM.

Peloquin has most recently been the GM of the intercollegiate division for the agency Athletes First. Peloquin is considered to be very fluent in the ever-changing landscape of NIL and has connections to a wide array of agents.

Peloquin also has two decades of experience with a powerhouse college football program. Peloquin was with Notre Dame for 21 years and served under five different head coaches. Peloquin, per his LinkedIn, was Notre Dame’s director of player personnel from 2004-2023 and also held other titles in that span, such as director of football development (2007-2013) and assistant athletic director/strategic initiatives (2023-2025). Notre Dame appeared in two national championships during Peloquin’s time in South Bend. The concern about Michigan’s staff not having enough Midwest ties to recruit at a high level in the area is now an irrelevant talking point.

Football Scoop had some great insight about a Peloquin and Michigan partnership

– “Peloquin and Wolverines star running backs coach Tony Alford worked hand-in-hand together at Notre Dame, where Alford was consistently the Fighting Irish’s top recruiter and Peloquin had then risen to the role of director of player personnel — before even the concept of a collegiate general manager existed.”

– “Peloquin helped recruit Tyler Stockton from New Jersey prep powerhouse The Hun School to Notre Dame; Stockton was hired by the Whittingham & Co. as Michigan’s new safeties coaches.”

-“Michigan’s newest on-field staff addition — defensive line coach Larry Black — is a former Peloquin colleague from their shared season together in South Bend, Indiana, in 2018, as Black was a key cog on then-defensive coordinator Clark Lea’s Fighting Irish defensive staff.”

This seems like a very strong and unique hire for Michigan if it’s a done deal. It’ll be interesting to see who Michigan hires in the recruiting department to aid Peloquin, as there are a few key and integral openings. Michigan is reportedly parting ways with director of player personnel Albert Karschnia, director of on-campus recruiting Kayli Johnson and director of recruiting Sam Popper.
