A shootout followed, and gunfire struck one response vehicle twice.

Helicopter search leads to cash-in-transit firearm recovery in Inanda

RUSA recovered three firearms during an aerial search for the fleeing suspects in Inanda later on Monday.

The search followed the Brindhaven robbery and shootout involving heavily armed suspects.

RUSA said the suspects abandoned several money boxes before escaping in a white Toyota Cross and a white Toyota Corolla.

During the operation, the helicopter crew spotted a woman signalling from the ground and directing them to a nearby farm. The aircraft descended and landed in a mint field.

The pilot and crew searched the area and recovered a rifle and two 9mm pistols that the suspects allegedly discarded.

RUSA said one of its response vehicles sustained damage during the earlier gun battle.
