The New York Jets are in the market for a new quarterback after Justin Fields struggled in the first year of his $40 million two-year contract.
Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey need to find a solid starter this offseason, and while the NFL Draft doesn't look to have the answer they're looking for, the trade market does.
While Kyler Murray has often been linked to the Jets, ESPN's Seth Walder is predicting the Jets go after a different NFC QB. Walder is predicting the Jets acquire New Orleans Saints backup Spencer Rattler in a trade to replace Fields.
Jets predicted to replace Justin Fields with Spencer Rattler
"Predicted 2026 starter: Spencer Rattler," Walder writes. "The former fifth-round pick is entering his third season, so he could still improve. And Rattler likely would cost less on the trade market than Jones, as well."
Mac Jones seems like a great fit, but instead, the Jets could spend a lot less and take a chance on Rattler from the Saints.
The 25-year-old quarterback, drafted by the Saints in the fifth-round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has started a few games over the last few years for the Saints.
This past season, Rattler had a 67.7% completion rate with 1,586 passing yards and eight touchdowns with five interceptions. He also had 167 rushing yards, showing the ability to be enough of a factor in the run game.

With the Saints finding Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Rattler becomes a very clear trade option this offseason.
Rattler is a solid trade candidate for the Jets this offseason. He is under contract on his rookie deal for two more seasons, so if all goes well in 2026, then Rattler could be a starter in 2027 again as well.
And even if he struggles a bit, the Jets won't be on the hook for much money at all to bring in a new quarterback next offseason.
While there are plenty of interesting quarterbacks the Jets could go after, Rattler is the one Walder predicts will be the starter in Week 1 for New York.
