Like many Kaizer Chiefs fans, Itumeleng Khune was left devastated after the club received a 3-0 beating by Orlando Pirates at the Soweto Derby over the weekend.

The retired soccer player, who once captained Amakhosi, watched the match at the FNB Stadium.

In a clip that has gone viral on Instagram, Itumeleng Khune was seen crying after the final whistle blew, marking Kaizer Chiefs’ loss to Orlando Pirates.
The video featured Primo Baloyi – the son of Amakhosi legend Lucas Radebe – ironically supporting Orlando Pirates, mocking Khune and other Chiefs fans in the stadium.
Like Radebe, Khune is a retired Chiefs player. The former skipper wiped tears from his face, commenting that he felt “so emotional” after the loss.
In the comments section, the 38-year-old claimed that he was tied to a “lifetime membership” to the club. He added that he was “heavily invested”.

In 2024, Itumeleng Khune unofficially resigned from his post at Kaizer Chiefs after 20 long years. According to reports, Khune left after his contract for the 2024/2025 season was not renewed.

A month earlier, the club honoured the soccer star for his total of 25 years of service, including his time at the youth academy.
On his Instagram account, Khune bragged about having “28 Soweto Derbys under my belt.”
