First‑year head coach Bucky McMillan has exceeded outside expectations, taking a roster that returned zero offensive production, arrived late to the transfer‑portal cycle, and opened the year picked 13th in the SEC, and turning it into a legitimate NCAA Tournament contender. But before the Aggies can think about the big bracket, they’ll have to navigate McMillan’s first SEC Tournament as a head coach, a stage he knows well.
"I've gone to that tournament so many times growing up. You know, I've sat behind the benches a lot of times. I got so many incredible stories. Like I mean just so many great stories watching what's going on behind these benches."
McMillan didn’t hesitate when outlining what it takes to survive tournament basketball.
"You got to be good on defense, that's for sure. You got to do that. You obviously got to have your guards play really well. I mean, and you know, I think that you got to play to win. Like, you can't play not to lose."
"So, let's just roll, be aggressive, let our guards play well, play tenacious on defense, and be us."
That identity pressure, pace, and confidence have carried A&M through the final stretch of SEC play.
Two players who have been central to that push, Rashaun Agee and Rylan Griffen, made it clear the Aggies aren’t heading to Nashville just to participate.
" I feel like any athlete, you should want to go in and try to win. I wouldn't tell my teammates we gonna go in here just to play one game. No, we trying to win everything." - Agee
Griffen echoed the importance of the opportunity ahead.
"I think it's important. You could get a lot of good wins against quality teams. So, it's important from an aspect of feeling confident before the big big dance. So, it's very important for us." - Griffen
