It’s that part of the NFL offseason where anything feels possible. The Steelers already made a trade at the start of free agency, and now there’s chatter about the possibility of another.

On Monday, two credentialed Cowboys reporters mentioned that Dallas had some interest in trading for Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen after missing out on several big names in free agency.

NFL Network’s Jane Slater mentioned that the Cowboys were “looking at” a Queen trade but weren’t in strong pursuit in the moment. A few hours later, she posted that “Patrick Queen (is) still one I’m watching” after Dallas missed out on Devin Lloyd.

Later, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris posted that the Cowboys were one of “a handful of teams” that have called Pittsburgh about Queen, with one of those teams including the Philadelphia Eagles.

Harris noted that the Steelers are likely asking for a mid-round pick, but he clarified that nothing is imminent.

Queen, 26, recorded 120 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and one sack in his second season with the Steelers in 2025. However, the team’s linebacker core was criticized throughout the season.

Queen came to the Steelers on a three-year, $41 million deal in 2024 after a second-team All-Pro year with the Baltimore Ravens. He is the highest-paid free agent addition in Steelers history.

Entering the last year of his contract in 2026, Queen is expected to have a $17 million cap hit per Spotrac. The rest of the Steelers linebacker room is currently made of Payton Wilson, Malik Harrison, the recently re-signed Cole Holcomb, and Carson Bruener.
