Vikings ink Kyler Murray day after Cardinals released quarterback
· Yahoo Sports
Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray has a new NFL home.
The former Oklahoma quarterback, who the award as the best player in college football in 2018, signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. Minnesota picked up Murray for the league minimum despite starting every game's in which he's played over the course of his seven NFL seasons. That's because the Arizona Cardinals released him Wednesday but still owe him $36.8 million thanks to a deal he signed back in 2022.

Murray has struggled with health in recent years, only starting more than 11 games once since in the last four seasons. Last year with the Cardinals, Murray made just five starts, throwing for 962 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions. But Murray will only be 29 when the season begins in the fall and is a two-time Pro Bowl selection.
"I'm just grateful for the opportunity," Murray said. "I look forward to coming in and competing."
He will have to compete. The Vikings took JJ McCarthy as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 draft and he started 10 games last year with Minnesota going 6-4 in those starts. But McCarthy also threw more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (11) and the Vikings failed to make the playoffs.
Murray made the playoffs just once during his seasons with the Cardinals and Arizona went just 3-14 last year. Murray picked up two of those wins, though, as the Cardinals went 2-3 in his starts before a foot injury ended his season.
For his career, Murray ranks third in Cardinals history with 20,460 yards passing with 121 passing touchdowns, 3,193 yards rushing and 32 rushing touchdowns.
