National reaction to Eagles re-signing Dallas Goedert
· Yahoo Sports
In a move that keeps one of Jalen Hurts most trusted pass catchers under contract, the Eagles and tight end Dallas Goedert agreed to a new one-year deal after a complicated week of negotiations that included pushing back the void date on his contract twice. With the move, the Eagles have three tight ends on the roster after re-signing Grant Calcaterra and signing Johnny Mundt. Prior to joining the Jaguars, Mundt spent three seasons with the Vikings. Last season, he caught nine passes (on 19 targets) for 111 yards across 16 regular-season games in 2025, when he served mostly as a run blocker and backup to Brenton Strange.

Had Goedert's contract been voided, Philadelphia would have accrued a $20 million dead cap hit if the tight end had signed with another team. He'll now continue his role as Hurts' favorite target across the middle and in key situations after breaking the Eagles record for touchdowns in a season by a tight end.
With the move now complete, we're looking at the national media reaction to the deal.

Another year of Dallas "Philly" Goedert:

Bringing back Dallas Goedert was so important.

- Keeps $20M in dead cap from hitting the books
- Doesn't force a TE pick early in the draft
- Goedert was really productive last season

He's coming back. #DallasGoedert and The #Eagles have agreed to terms with the eight-year vet TE on a one-year deal.

Goedert obviously wanted to stay. If Goedert was not signed by Monday it would've been a $20 million cap hit for the Eagles. pic.twitter.com/3NTd8wzgyS
Dallas Goedert set career highs with 60 catches and 11 TDs in 2025. His production earned him offers elsewhere but he was willing to work with the #Eagles in pushing his void back twice to prevent a $20M cap hit and buy time for a one-year deal to return. pic.twitter.com/hiD2drydr3

There are two benefits to this deal:
— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) March 15, 2026
1. The Eagles keep a high-end TE who is a proven factor in the passing game. They should still draft a TE, but Goedert’s return means they don’t need to find a starter — especially with the market drying up at the position.
2. The Eagles… https://t.co/ZeaI8X0atb

Not only do the Eagles get their TE1 back but they also avoid a $20+ million dead cap hit by keeping Goedert. This will be his ninth season in Philly in 2026.
