Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony originally wasn't supposed to be in the World Baseball Classic this year. But when Corbin Carroll went down with an injury last month, Anthony got the offer to fill in for him on Team USA.
It's proven to be a tremendous experience for the 21-year-old, who's more than held his own in his first WBC. Anthony launched a pair of big home runs last week, helping USA beat Mexico in pool play and the Dominican Republic in the semifinal.
After smashing the go-ahead home run in Sunday's 2-1 win over the DR, Anthony revealed his biggest takeaways and lessons from the tournament so far.
"I think for me, coming into it, the biggest thing is understanding the group that I have around me, right? The knowledge, the experience, so many guys who have impacted this game in such amazing ways," Anthony told the FOX postgame crew. "So for me, it's about coming in here and learning as much as I can, but at the same time, competing my tail off every single day."

While Anthony has focused on absorbing as much as he can from superstars like Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, he's also trying to do his best, prove he belongs and help his team win.
"As a group, we expect to win, and that's the standard for us," Anthony added. "As much as I'm trying to go out there and learn and be around these guys and take in all the info, I'm trying to compete, I'm trying to win."
So far, Anthony's succeeding on both fronts. He's gotten to benefit from playing on a veritable All-Star team while also facing some of the top competition in the world and getting big-game experience, which he unfortunately missed last year due to injury.
Anthony will get one more chance to solidify his impact on the tournament during Tuesday's championship game, where he'll try to help USA win its first championship in nine years.
