Paul Waring is a 41-year-old pro golfer who has never won on the PGA Tour. In three Tour starts so far in 2026, he’s missed three cuts. In 12 Tour events last season, he missed 10 cuts.

But as we head into Friday’s second round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open, Waring is in the lead. The veteran, who has won twice on the DP World Tour, fired a seven-under 63 in Round 1 at Memorial Park to take a one-shot lead.

Major champion Gary Woodland is in solo second, with three players, including Sam Burns, tied at five under with 54 holes to play.

Just a bit further down the leaderboard you’ll find Rickie Fowler, T11 at three under. Fowler is making his final attempt to earn a 2026 Masters invite this week. He needs to win or finish high enough to improve his world ranking from 61st to 50th.
