Lions' Dan Campbell: 'We appreciate everything' Taylor Decker did

The biggest twist of the Detroit Lions' offseason involved longtime franchise left tackle Taylor Decker.

While his status for 2026 was in limbo after he revealed he was mulling retirement, it appeared as though Decker was set to return in 2026. Then, after announcing his intentions to return, negotiations fell through between Decker and the Lions after Decker said the organization asked him to take a pay cut.

The saga ended with Decker asking for and being granted his release.

In a recent interview with Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network, Decker shared his frustration that the Lions didn't reach out to thank him for his contributions to the franchise over his 10-year run in Detroit following his release.

On Monday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared his appreciation for Decker at the annual league meetings in Phoenix.

"Look, I'm going to give nothing but flowers to Deck for everything he did for us and what he's done for this organization.

"And look, I'm sure as hell not going to call him right now, not after all this article came out. But, I'll call him. I'm going to call him in time. But, I want him to know it's real and it's a real phone call. But, man, we appreciate everything he did," Campbell said.

As the Lions now move forward at left tackle, Campbell also revealed on Monday that Penei Sewell is "ready" to move to left tackle. That move hasn't been finalized, but it's very much in play for Detroit.

The Lions inked offensive tackle Larry Borom in free agency and many are mocking offensive tackles to Detroit with its first-round pick at No. 17 overall in the 2026 NFL draft.
