The former five-star and Syracuse football’s highest-ranked recruit in two decades was expected to make an impact this year. Russell started his journey on the hardwood before transitioning to the field this spring. He joined the Orange basketball team and stayed on the roster until after the ACC tournament.

While the extent of Russell's injuries are unknown at this time, there's also no indication if Russell would be able to play during the upcoming season.

“I’m confident Calvin will return stronger because of our culture, commitment to our players and the relationship Calvin, his family and I have,” Brown said in a statement. “Calvin, best believe Orange Nation’s got your back.”

At 6-foot-5, Russell is one college football's tallest receiving threats. He finished his senior campaign with 47 catches for 742 yards and 8 touchdowns. Outside of playing receiver, Russell threw for 368 yards and 4 TDs while also rushing for two scores. He helped Miami Northwestern return to the Florida 3A championship under the direction of head coach Teddy Bridgewater.

Syracuse now has 12 available wide receivers for spring ball, but none at Russell's level in his young career.
