So far known

The model that will spearhead its re-launch, the production version of the Type 00 concept, will be the first to ride on the Jaguar Electrical Architecture (JEA) that has been designed specifically not to accommodate a combustion engine.

Styled as a four-door coupe, the GT will use a tri-motor electric setup producing 735kW and a now confirmed 1 300Nm of torque.

Aside from being all-wheel drive, it has a claimed range 770km and comes replete with a new twin-valve damper adaptive air suspension.

In addition, all-wheel steering will be standard and, according to Jaguar, will have the same dynamic levels as the original XJ Coupe.

“Right from the start, our aim was to deliver a true Jaguar. To do that, we wanted to re-examine the provenance of the brand, and the best way to achieve this was to drive some of our greatest models from the past 90 years,” Jaguar Managing Director, Rawdon Glover, said.

“It provided clear direction to help us create the most technically advanced Jaguar ever made”.

Starting from scratch

Confirmed to make its world premiere in September, the GT will become Jaguar’s first completely new model since it ended production of all combustion engine products at the end of last year.

Until now, no product has been made, aside from China, where market specific long wheelbase versions of the XE L and XF L are still being made.

The GT’s arrival comes after the much-publicised criticism of the Type 00’s launch two years ago, and the departure of former design boss Gerry McGovern at the end of last month.

Cancelled line-up

More recently, former Jaguar design head Ian Cullum revealed that at least four new models were being planned before the decision to stop all was made.

Aside from the new XJ that was undergoing final testing before being scrapped, a smaller sedan between the XE and XF was due, along with a second generation F-Pace.

According to motor1.com, Callum, who left Jaguar in 2019, also confirmed that a stillborn replacement for the F-Type was on the cards before being shelved.

Other known projects, of which nothing came to fruition, included a new rumoured SUV called the J-Pace and the possible production of the ultimately canned CX-75.
