Kolkata, April 2: South African cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad star batter Heinrich Klaasen scored a calm and important half-century to his team to post the highest total of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 in the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. Klaasen scored 52 runs off 35 balls and played a key role in building the innings after few wickets early in the middle of the innings.

Explosive Start

SRH got off to a strong start from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Abhishek scored a quick 48 runs off 21 balls and Head added 46 runs. This gave SRH a good momentum in the Powerplay and the score was 82 before Head was dismissed.

Middle Order Collapse

After the openers got out, Klaasen handled the innings well. He played steady shots and kept the scoreboard moving after few early wickets in the middle. Nitish Kumar supported him with quick 39 runs.

Highest Total Of The Season

SRH continued to score runs till the end and finished their first innings with 226/8 which is the highest total in IPL 2026 so far.

Ishan Kishan Gets Orange Cap

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Ishan Kishan got the Orange Cap after the first innings as he has managed to score the most runs in the tournament so far. Ishan Kishan has scored 94 runs in the two matches he has played so far. He surpassed Ryan Rickelton of Mumbai Indians who scored 81 runs in his first match.
