Alannah Leach hits two home runs in Lady Vols' win over South Carolina

No. 7 Tennessee (31-5, 8-5 SEC) opened a three-game softball series against No. 25 South Carolina (22-16, 2-8 SEC) on Thursday. The Lady Vols won Game 1, 3-1, at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Sage Mardjetko started for Tennessee and pitched 2.1 innings. She totaled three strikeouts and 56 pitches, including 30 strikes, against 13 batters. Mardjetko allowed three hits, one run (one earned), three walks and hit one batter.

Karlyn Pickens (9-3) pitched 4.2 innings in relief for the Lady Vols, totaling three strikeouts and 52 pitches (55 strikes). She earned her ninth win of the season.

Tennessee's offense recorded seven hits, including two home runs from Alannah Leach and one home run from Emma Clarke.

Friday's Game 2 between the Lady Vols and Gamecocks is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT and can be watched on SEC Network+. A series finale will be contested Saturday at 5:30 p.m. EDT. SEC Network will televise Game 3.
