5-star freshman Tank Jones standing out early on Oregon Ducks defense
· Yahoo Sports
When you recruit at the level that the Oregon Ducks do, each spring season brings a long list of incoming players who get the hype train rolling early. That's especially true after Dan Lanning signed the best recruiting class in program history this past winter, with five 5-star players joining the program.
Among those incoming freshmen, one has been making some noise early on. 5-star edge rusher Anthony 'Tank' Jones has caught the eye of defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, and though the Ducks have had just a handful of practices thus far, the staff likes what it sees.

“I’m really excited about Tank," Tuioti said after practice on Saturday. "Tank had a really good practice today. He's another one, very similar to Aydin (Breeland), really, in our big-game positions, where he can play the edge, he can slide inside and play the three technique."
That position versatility has been common in recent years, where the Ducks deploy players at various spots on the line throughout the years, depending on the matchup. We've seen guys like Brandon Dorlus and Jordan Burch move both inside and outside, depending on the game, while Matayo Uiagalelei started his career more on the edge, but moved inside a bit with great success a season ago.
Now, as long as he can continue to learn the defense and develop at a high level in various spots, he could be the next in a long line of extremely productive and versatile defensive linemen in Eugene.
"Tank's done a really, really good job," Tuioti said. "It's a very complicated defense, and to be able to minimize everything, he's done a great job with that.”
