Indiana men’s basketball transfer portal target: Notre Dame guard Markus Burton
· Yahoo Sports
Indiana men’s basketball is interested in a former Mr. Basketball winner currently in the transfer portal.
Markus Burton, who’s started at Notre Dame in all three of his seasons with the Fighting Irish, has emerged as a top target for the Hoosiers, who will reportedly host him for an official visit this weekend. He’s the first reported visitor of the offseason for the program.

Burton averaged 18.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 48.9% from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range in 10 games in 2025-26 before a left ankle injury ended his season in December. He was coming off of a significantly more productive shooting season in 2024-25, when he converted on 37.5% of his attempts from 3-point range on 5.3 per game. He’s never scored less than 17.5 points per game in a season in college.
He’d fill an immediate need for Indiana at point guard while providing the additional boost of scoring out of the backcourt. Indiana head coach Darian DeVries’ offenses at previous stops have typically had a strong distributor leading the way. Burton’s 2025-26 season has a similar statistical profile to that of Roman Penn, who started at point guard for DeVries at Drake for multiple seasons, in 2020-21.
Landing a point guard first would help Indiana’s staff fill out the rest of the roster with a strong, immediate answer for prospects looking to know how they’ll get the ball in the Hoosiers’ offense.
