Satou Sabally is leaving the Phoenix Mercury after one season with the team.

On Wednesday, Sabally shared an Instagram post with several photos from her Mercury tenure. "My best year yet. Thank you, Phoenix," Sabally wrote with a phoenix and heart emoji. The Instagram post confirms an earlier Front Office Sports report that Sabally is not expected to re-sign with the team during WNBA free agency.

Sabally joined the franchise in February 2025 as part of a three-team trade between Phoenix, the Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever. The trade, one of the biggest during free agency, was part of the Mercury's concerted effort to acquire Sabally and forward Alyssa Thomas. Phoenix paired both players with guard Kahleah Copper, forming the team's core.

Before joining Phoenix, Sabally requested a trade from the Wings, telling the media, "I’m working with (the Wings) to find a next home for me. I’ve already played my last game in Dallas.” The veteran forward emphasized she was seeking a franchise that prioritized women's sports and resources.

Sabally landed in Phoenix after a five-year stint in Dallas, where she was a two-time All-Star, first-team All-WNBA and won the WNBA Most Improved Player award in 2023. Sabally, who added another All-Star nod to her resume last season, started 39 games for Phoenix, averaging 16.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game on 40.4% shooting from the field.

The Mercury had a 27-17 regular-season record and advanced to the WNBA Finals. Sabally suffered a concussion in Game 3 of the Finals and had to sit out the rest of the series. The Aces won the WNBA Finals, 4-0, to secure their third title in franchise history.
