Oregon senior earns National Player of the Week honors

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon softball star Elon Butler has collected two major awards this week, being named the Big Ten Conference’s Player of the Week and Softball America’s National Player of the Week.

Butler delivered a record-breaking performance over the weekend, highlighted by a historic game against Iowa on Saturday. She became the first player in UO program history to hit for the cycle.

Across the series, Butler hit an impressive .583 with a double, triple, two home runs, and five RBIs. This season so far, Butler has been a force on the field. This season, her 16 doubles currently rank third in the nation and No. 1 in the Big Ten.

She tops Oregon in multiple categories, including batting average (.437), home runs (12), RBIs (48), and slugging percentage (.924). The Ducks are currently ranked No. 15 in the nation by NFCA and No. 17 by USA Softball.

They turn their attention to a three-game road series against Maryland starting on Friday, April 10.
