Online seller robbed of 'high-value' trading card in North York

The hunt is on for two thieves who met with an online seller in North York, sprayed the victim with a noxious substance and stole a high-value trading card.

Toronto Police say the robbery unfolded in the area of Bathurst St. and Cedarcroft Blvd.  –  south of Steeles Ave. W.  – around 7 p.m. on Thursday.

“The victim was selling a high-value trading card online,” police said in a statement released Friday night, explaining the person arranged to meet with two males who were interested in purchasing the card.

“The victim attended the agreed location for the transaction,” police said, adding the two males approached from behind, sprayed the victim with a noxious substance, then stole the trading card.

Thieves fled in a black SUV

Police said the two unidentified thieves then fled the area in a black SUV.

Investigators have released images of suspect vehicle hoping someone recognizes it and comes forward.

The first suspect is described as black, 17 to 20 years old, about 5-foot-8, and he was wearing a black medical mask and black hooded sweater.

The second suspect is described as 17 to 20 years old, about 5-foot-8, and he was wearing a black medical mask and grey hooded sweater.

“The Toronto Police Service would like to remind residents conducting online marketplace transactions to remain vigilant and be safe when doing the exchange,” police cautioned. “Some Toronto Police divisions offer zones where buyers and sellers can meet to do an exchange. Check with your local division to see if this is available.”
