Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, who hails from Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, is an alumnus of Government Medical College Jammu and AIIMS New Delhi. He began his career in J&K Health Services before joining AIIMS New Delhi, where he later headed the Department of Hospital Administration. Over the years, he has mentored more than 45 postgraduate and PhD scholars, guided over 112 research studies, and authored more than 110 publications. His department became the first at AIIMS to receive ISO certification, and he contributed to curriculum standardization and academic innovation in hospital administration.
He has led multiple WHO-supported initiatives on hospital governance, public-private partnerships, and electronic medical records and has authored eleven books on key areas including hospital planning, procurement, disaster management, and infection control. He has also led national capacity-building programmes and contributed to policy frameworks, including roles in the National Ambulance Code Committee and emergency care systems.
As Founding Executive Director and CEO, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Honorary Distinguished Professor, IIM Jammu, has led the development of AIIMS Jammu into a modern, patient-centric institution, introducing initiatives such as “Patient First” and “Pain-Free” care models. Under his visionary leadership, 43 major infrastructure projects were completed within a record timeframe, earning national recognition, including the CPWD Best Project Award. Under his stewardship, AIIMS Jammu secured the 7th rank in the Government Medical Universities Ranking 2025, emerging as the second-highest-ranked institution after AIIMS New Delhi, firmly placing it on the national academic map. Today, AIIMS Jammu stands as a symbol of visionary leadership and determined execution.
At Indian Institute of Management Jammu, he is contributing to the MBA (Healthcare) programme offered in collaboration with AIIMS Jammu and IIT Jammu, bringing a rare confluence of clinical depth, administrative acumen, policy insight, and technological orientation. Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta’s recognitions include FICCI Healthcare Personality of the Year (2025), Capital Foundation National Award, Times Healthcare Achievers Award, and the State Award for Meritorious Public Service by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, among others. He has also received international recognition, including the International Partner of the Year Award from Cologne University, Germany.
