Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett is not attending the team's Phase 1 offseason program and is seeking a contract extension that would pay him as the starter.

Brissett is scheduled to make $9.06 million against the salary cap in 2026 but has only $1.5 million in guaranteed money remaining on his current deal.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday.
According to Rapoport, the Cardinals appear willing to address the situation. They released Kyler Murray last month, and Brissett stepped in to start 12 games last season, completing 64.9 percent of his passes for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Arizona hasn't named Brissett the starter and isn't planning to anytime soon
New Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur and general manager Monti Ossenfort both declined to name a starter when asked Thursday. Ossenfort said the team is not really naming anybody as the starting QB for now:
"We're not really naming anybody. We'll see how that room looks by the time we get in August."
"Both those guys have played a lot of football. Right now, none of that is even being discussed because all we're trying to do is get a foundational aspect of what this system looks like," LaFleur said.
Gardner Minshew, signed in March, comes in with $5.14 million in guaranteed money on his contract, which is considerably more security than what Brissett currently holds.
Maybe that disparity is what led to Brissett's request. He outperformed the guy the organization built around for four years and still doesn't have a guaranteed quarterback contract to show for it.
Arizona holds the No. 34 overall pick and recent reports have been pointing to Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson as a potential draft target. That context makes the Cardinals' reluctance to simply commit to Brissett understandable, even if it's a tough position for him.
Brissett is 33 and has started games for six NFL organizations.
