Arizona Cardinals get roasted for selection of Carson Beck in round three
· Yahoo Sports
Needless to say, one selection that the Arizona Cardinals have made in the 2026 NFL Draft is drawing a lot of… backlash.
After a mostly 60/40 positive split on the Jeremiyah Love pick, and a nearly universal positive response to picking up Chase Bistontis with their pick in round two, the team took the stage one more time on day two, kicking off the third round.

After a rousing celebration of America, the Cardinals came out and took Carson Beck.
The response has been… something.
Per sources, Arizona was Beck's No. 1 visit in the process. He vibed with OC Nathaniel Hackett on his 30 visit, was enamored with the weapons there and there's obviously an opportunity to win the starting job. https://t.co/MSDJK9KK7o

Are the Cardinals trying to get their fanbase to jump off a bridge or something? https://t.co/GZMUXzGUEa

Carson Beck under pressure last season, in his sixth year of college football:

28/58, 6.4 yards per attempt, 3 TDs, 3 INTs, 16 sacks
Hard to fully understand the logic when the Cardinals need to build the foundation for a franchise quarterback in 2027.

Good swing for Arizona—if it works out, great. If not, nothing holding the Cardinals back from taking a quarterback in the first round next year. https://t.co/aMFpeE2QgU

Beck is going to be a great backup next year to whoever the cardinals take with their first pick in the 2027 NFL draft

Meanwhile, the grades are coming out on the pick and it was not pretty either.

From CBS Sports:
Arizona Cardinals – Carson Beck, QB, Miami – D
This feels like a relative slap in the face to Cardinals fans. Your offseason investment at the most valuable position is a 24-year old with limited tools after you’ve taken a running back and a guard. Is this guy really going toe-to-toe with Matt Stafford or Sam Darnold in that division? It feels like when the Texans drafted Davis Mills 67th in 2021. I’d rather they passed on quarterback entirely and prayed for a better crop of quarterbacks in 2027. (Mike Renner)
From USA Today:
65. Arizona Cardinals: Carson Beck, QB, Miami (Fla.) – Grade: D
It’s understandable that Arizona might want to take a stab at finding a developmental quarterback. Beck, however, is a robotic passer who can wilt under pressure, and his decision-making and ball placement can be erratic. This doesn’t move the needle much for a team preparing to roll with Jacoby Brissett. With so much work to do, Arizona should take a more patient approach to roster-building.
Dane Brugler on The Athletic Football Show:

"I'm not a Carson Beck guy. I know what he is. I think the ceiling's pretty low for him in terms of what he is as an NFL quarterback. … To me, you just don't draft that at pick 65."
Here’s the thing, the Beck pick in a vacuum is fine. As Albert Breer said, it is a swing on a quarterback in the third round and does nothing to keep you from drafting another guy in 2027.
If Beck can get back to the arm strength he had at Georgia before the UCL injury maybe he can become something more, because he has shown to be a competent starter in the NFL.
But, his off the field stuff, his injury status and his age all leave questions, and while I don’t think they deserve the roasting, it is understandable.
What are your thoughts?
