The Miami Heat had another disappointing campaign in the 2025-26 season. They started the year strong with a good record and a brand new play style under head coach Erik Spoelstra. However, that did not pan out because the Heat's inconsistency proved to be their downfall.
Starting center Bam Adebayo did not have the best year, but he did have one of the biggest moments of the season with his 83-point game. Apart from that moment, it seems team president Pat Riley remains focused on helping Adebayo make the most of his time in Miami.
Pat Riley wants the Miami Heat to be built around Bam Adebayo
As one of the most successful executives and coaches of all time, Pat Riley knows how to win in the NBA. Unfortunately, he has not been building the right teams in recent years. Yes, they made it to the NBA Finals in 2023, but that was a miracle run as they came from the Play-In Tournament.
With Erik Spoelstra as the head coach, the Heat have a cheat code because he can lead his team to victory almost every night against any opponent. The Heat's roster is talented, but they are not on the same level as the other top teams in the Eastern Conference.

If the Heat want to win, they need to make major moves. That could include a deal that involves Bam Adebayo, since he is one of the most enticing assets they have. However, that will not be the case as long as Riley is in charge because he wants to keep building around Adebayo.
"I want to build this around Bam. I think Micky wants the same thing and Nick, Andy, and all of us, so I'm going to give you a flat-out no, unless somebody gave me eight picks and Wembanyama," Riley said in his end-of-season presser about the Heat's future with Adebayo.
It is definitely an interesting statement because the Heat are not exploring all the options they have if they refuse to trade Adebayo. They can continue building around him, but ignoring every single offer on the table for him might not be the best move.
