The 67-year-old Hall of Fame linebacker was rushed to a New Jersey medical center last week. Lawyer Arthur Aidala — a friend of Taylor’s who has also defended him — told the New York Daily News that his pal was “dealing with some abdominal issues” and expected to recover.
TMZ reported more specifically Tuesday that No. 56 was being treated for pancreatitis and getting better by the day. That outlet couldn’t confirm what caused Taylor’s pancreas to become inflamed, but notes that alcohol can be a factor. Taylor has a history of drinking.
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine says nausea, vomiting and increased heart rate are signs of pancreatitis. It’s not clear if Taylor experienced those symptoms.
Widely considered the Giants’ most dominant player, Taylor’s post-football career has included legal and substance abuse issues. He’s spoken about his road to recovery.
He was appointed to President Trump’s President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in August.
