The wide receiver, who was released by the New England Patriots after just one season, was accused by a former live-in chef of choking and slapping her in his home in December 2025. The NFL star's former employee took the stand on Monday, May 4, and claimed the assault occurred when Diggs entered her bedroom on December 2.
The woman alleged Diggs "smacked me with an open hand" and said she struggled to breathe as the wide receiver wrapped his arm around her neck and choked her. She also accused him of failing to pay her the full amount of her contract.
Diggs opted against taking the witness stand to rebut Adams' claims.
Diggs was arrested in December and pleaded not guilty in February, PEOPLE previously reported.
On the first day of the trial, Diggs declined to speak to reporters as he made his way into the court room, according to The Associated Press.
The NFL star's attorneys said that he "categorically denies the allegations" before the verdict on Tuesday.
Diggs made headlines in the last year for his relationship with rapper Cardi B, who gave birth to their child on Nov. 4, 2025. Breakup rumors began circulating in February after they unfollowed each other's social media accounts.
A source told PEOPLE in late February: "Things were getting too heated and complicated. Cardi is very no-nonsense," the source says. "The second she felt that she couldn't trust him, she pulled back to focus on her kids, her music and tour."
Diggs is currently a free agent after he was cut from the Patriots.
