It's been an interesting start to the season for the Toronto Blue Jays, and frankly, if this team were healthy, we'd likely be looking at one of the better teams in baseball. Unfortunately for Toronto, it has just been hit with injuries, something that's unavoidable at times.
There are also some other problems that the Blue Jays have run into, and one of them is moving on from guys like Bo Bichette.
Everybody knew the Blue Jays were going to move on from Bichette and let him walk in free agency, which he did by signing with the New York Mets.
However, because of allowing guys like him to walk, there have been problems throughout the lineup, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Guerrero is still one of the best hitters in baseball, but he's not seeing as many pitches to hit as he did at other stages of his career.
“Without a consistent threat behind the top slugger, Guerrero has seen fewer pitches in the heart of the zone (21.5 percent) than at any point in his big-league career. Opposing pitchers are wasting more pitches (11.2 percent) against the first baseman. It’s certainly part of why Guerrero has brought more on-base (.421 OBP) than power (two homers) this season,” Mitch Bannon of The Athletic wrote.
That's a somewhat concerning stat, and something the Blue Jays will ultimately have to figure out, whether that's right now or in the future. Kazuma Okamoto has been figuring things out recently, but he'll have to prove it a lot more throughout his career for teams to really start giving Guerrero better pitches to hit.
