Ashu Shinghal assumes charge as Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas Limited

Ashu Shinghal has assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Maharatna PSU GAIL (India) Limited. Prior to his new assignment, Shinghal served as Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).

A Mechanical Engineering graduate from NIT, Silchar, Shinghal also holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), with specialization in Operation Management. He joined GAIL as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in 1991 and rose through the ranks to the post of Executive Director in the company, steering key departments such as Corporate Strategy, Planning & Advocacy, Risk Management, Total Quality Management and Sustainable Developments. He also held the post of Chief Risk Officer of the organization.

During his career spanning 35 years in the hydrocarbon sector, Shinghal has worked in large scale Project Execution jobs including cross-country Natural Gas Pipelines, Petrochemical, City Gas Distribution and LNG.

At MGL, Shinghal led the company to double its revenue and market capitalisation, its highest ever Profit After Tax, highest number of domestic PNG connections in a year and record growth in the number of CNG stations and sales volume. He also spearheaded the company’s diversification into Compressed Bio Gas, LNG transportation and battery manufacturing through subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Shinghal worked in close association with the GAIL top management in strategic decision making of the company, has been a key liaison point for stakeholder engagement initiatives under natural gas advocacy program with various multilateral organizations, industry associations’ committees and think tanks. In the capacity of Chief Risk and Strategy Officer of GAIL, he successfully managed price risk, index risk (HH, Brent), and currency risk under LNG contracts which impact the bottom-line.

Shinghal has also served as Chairman of Mahanagar LNG Private Limited (MLPL) and International Battery Company India Private Limited (IBC) and Director on the Boards of ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPAL) and Talcher Fertilisers Limited (TFL).
