Local swimmers deliver six individual CIF-SS titles and one relay

Even though he’s in the water alone, the Oak Park junior can feel a boost from his teammates on the pool deck.

“Even though swimming is an individual sport, the team aspect definitively comes through,” said Ingrum. “It helps knowing it’s not just you out there. You’ve got people on the sidelines who believe in you.”

Ingrum won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:39.55, was part of a championship relay team and earned an automatic All-American time in finishing second in the 500 free as Oak Park finished seventh as a team at the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 swimming finals Friday, May 8.

“It was an awesome day,” Oak Park coach Calley Prezanno said.

Local high school swimmers won six individual section championships and one relay title over three days at the CIF-Southern Section Swimming Championships at Mt. San Antonio College.

The Division 4 finals were held on Thursday, May 7, and the Division 2 and 3 finals were Friday, May 8. The Division 1 finals were held on Saturday, May 9.

Two locals bound to be teammates UC San Diego defended their section titles with record swims.

Newbury Park senior Megan Wang defended her Division 2 title in the girls 100-yard backstroke in 52.86 seconds, a personal best, school record and meet record.

“She went in fully trusting her training and delivered an incredible performance,” said Newbury Park coach Sebastian Ayala.

Agoura senior Sofija Gelev defended her Division 3 titles in the girls 50 freestyle in 23.62 and in the girls 100 free in a school-record 51.08.

“She’s a phenomenal swimmer,” said Agoura coach Jason Rosenthal. “To go back to back is amazing.”

Oak Park senior Elliott Drottar won the Division 3 boys 100 free title in a school record 45.86.

“Started out fast and came back faster,” Drottar said. “Finished at the wall and I was glad it was the best time.”

The Oak Park team of Ingrum, Trey Williams, Mason Espin and Drottar won the boys 4x100 free relay in 3:10.38.

“That team has been working at it since last year,” said Ingrum. “It’s been great seeing Trey and Mason grow and develop into the swimmers they are today.”

Nordhoff junior Flynn Van Auker won the Division 4 100-yard backstroke in 50.90 seconds.

Division 2

Newbury Park’s Wang also finished third in the girls 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.94.

Buena senior Addison Bruno was third in the girls 50 freestyle in 24.27.

Buena senior Jack Pointner was third in the boys 200 free in 1:42.11. Camarillo senior Tom Singleton was ninth in 1:46.08.

Ventura junior Chase Loomis was third in the boys 100 free in 46.48. Pointner was fourth (46.93), Royal sophomore Levi Palmer was ninth (47.84) and Newbury Park senior Zack Bolte was 10th (46.76).

Bolte was fourth in the boys 50 free in 20.90. Loomis was sixth (21.19), Camarillo senior Jimmy Davis was 12th (21.86), Westlake junior Rick Liu was 13th (21.88) and Palmer was 18th  (22.10).

Royal sophomore Erik Lindskog was sixth in the boys 100 fly in 50.78. Newbury Park sophomore Leo Du was 11th (51.88) and Westlake senior Tyson Kato was 15th (52.36).

Singleton was seventh in the boys 500 free in 4:41.63. Camarillo junior Andy Beahan was eighth (4:42.07).

Buena senior River Davis was ninth in the boys 100 breaststroke in 59.58. Liu was 11th (58.31).

Camarillo senior Noah Takano was 10th in the boys 200 individual medley in 1:55.28.

Royal junior Matthieu Fresco was 11th in the boys 100 back in 53.45. Takano was 17th (54.65).

The Buena team of Wyatt Munger, Tony Bruno, Davis and Pointner were third in the boys 4x100 free relay in 3:10.50. Royal (Palmer, Marco Sanfelippo, Fresno and Lindskog) was fourth (3:11.82. Camarillo (Davis, Singleton, Michael Hyson and Takano) was seventh (3:13.11). Westlake (Noah Loo, Kato, Tryo Odenath and Liu) was 11th (3:14.65).

The Buena team of Munger, Bruno, Davis and Pointner was fourth in the boys 4x50 free relay in 1:27.45.

The Newbury Park team of Megan Wang, Stella Holtzkamp, Johanna Ritter and Elly Peters was 10th (1:53.83) in the girls 4x50-yard medley relay.

The Buena team of Bruno, Madelyn Pierce, Susan Hooper and Maren Bursek was 16th in the girls 4x50 free relay in 1:42.89.

The Buena boys finished third as a team with 143 points.

Division 3

Pacifica senior Abigail Tamayo was second in the girls 50 free in 23.62. Oak Park senior Caroline Bi was third in 24.08. Westlake sophomore Janie Wiles was 13th (25.42). Oak Park freshman Katya Fedorchak was 14th (25.47).

Tamayo was second in the girls 100 free in 51.96. Bi was third (52.69), Agoura freshman Jamison Boyd was 15th (56.58).

Nordhoff senior Melina Seider was second in the 200 free in 1:52.38. Foothill Tech senior Cynthia Hu was sixth (1:56.98). Boyd was 17th (2:03.37).

Oak Park’s Drottar was second in the boys 50 free in 20.68. Villanova Prep sophomore Murray Lynn was 13th (22.09).

Oak Park’s Ingrum was second in the boys 500 free in 4:27.84.

Nordhoff’s Seider was third in the girls 500 free in 4:59.53. Hu was 13th (5:16.43). Calabasas freshman Emily Franklin was 15th (5:19.26).

Westlake sophomore Unna Yuvavanich was third in the girls 100 backstroke in 1:01.66. Moorpark sophomore Emily Mark was 10th (1:04.30)

Yuvavanich was sixth in the girls 200 butterfly in 1:01.23. Oxnard senior Dalila Griscavage was 18th (1:06.85).

Westlake sophomore Kylie Melekhov was sixth in the girls 100 breaststroke in 1:09.85. Westlake junior Amy Chen was 10th (1:10.37).

Villanova Prep sophomore Mason Steen was 15th in the boys 200 individual medley in 2:03.71. Calabasas junior Kody Jimenez was 16th (2:04.87).

Calabasas senior Joaquin Sucgang was 16th in the boys 100 free in 49.35.

Westlake junior Zoe Fairley was 18th in the girls 200 individual medley in 2:23.26.

The Westlake team of Karolina Sangasy, Melanie Pang, Emma Freeland and Chloe Wool-Smith was second in the girls 4x50 medley relay in 1:53.54. Oak Park (Bi, Jennie Wang, Noemie Dysart, Caytlyn Frumusani) was seventh (1:57.44).

The Oak Park team of Fedorchak, Wang, Noemie Dysart and Bi was second in the girls 4x50 free relay in 1:41.92. Agoura (Lyla Diaz, Lexi Richardson, Boyd, Gelev) was third (1:42.34). Westlake (Wool-Smith, Pang, Sangasy, Mia Walker) was fourth in 1:43.34. Calabasas (Ava Levis, Camellia Ghorbanzadeh, Franklin, Taylor Credle) was fifth (1:43.45). Foothill Tech (Carolina Vanderkooij, Sunny Roberts, Ali Bly, Hu) was seventh (1:44.64)

The Calabasas team of Levis, Ghorbanzadeh, Credle and Franklin was second in the girls 4x100 free relay in 3:43.65. Agoura (Diaz, Richardson, Boyd, Gelev) was third (3:46.05). Westlake (Janie Wilkes, Fairley, Jessica Carey, Yuvavanich) was fourth (3:46.45). Foothill Tech (Vanderkooij, Sadie Lagerquist, Bly, Hu) was 11th (3:49.40).

The Oak Park team of Mason Espin, Ryan Guido, MingChen Jin and Elliott Drottar was eighth in the 4x50 medley relay in 1:42.75.

The Oak Park team of Artemus Nguyen, Roi Avraham, Jin and Trey Williams was ninth in the 4x50 free relay in 1:32.50.

The Foothill Tech team of Kylan Jaeger, Gavin Ingold, Connor Morris and Albert Lao was 13th in the boys 4x100 free relay in 3:22.7.

The Westlake girls finished second as a team with 169 points. Agoura was tied for fourth (122, Oak Park was seventh (107) and Calabasas was tied for ninth (88 points).

The Oak Park girls finished second as a team with 176 points.

Division 4

Nordhoff’s Van Auker was also second in the boys 200 free in 1:42.90.

Santa Paula junior Malia Deneef was 10th in the girls 100 breaststroke in 1:14.03.

St. Bonaventure sophomore Jackson Quagliata was 10th in the boys 500 free in 5:19.90.

The Nordhoff team of Konrad Hartmann, Talen Wingate, Owen Aguirre and Van Auker was 11th in the 4x100 free relay in 3:36.96.

The Nordhoff team of Hartmann, Wingate, Aguirre and Van Auker was 15th in the 4x50 free relay in 1:37.53.
