Former Durham cop facing 22 charges following renewed SIU sex assault probe
· Toronto Sun

A former Durham Regional Police officer is facing 22 charges, including seven counts of sexual assault, more than two decades later following a renewed investigation by the province’s police watchdog.
Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino said in a statement Thursday that there is “reasonable grounds to believe” Kevin Seamons committed criminal offences against a female in relation to a sexual assault investigation in 2003.

The SIU said it relaunched the investigation two years ago after the complainant provided new information.
Ex-cop arrested in Alberta
After a Canada-wide warrant was issued, Seamans was taken into custody by RCMP officers in Morinville, Alta., the SIU said.
He has been charged with six counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault with a weapon, seven counts of sexual exploitation, one count of pointing a firearm, six counts of breach of trust, and one count of assault with a weapon.
Seamans was released on several conditions, including that he refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected person, authorities said.
He’s scheduled to appear in an Oshawa court on June 5.
Records show ex-cop dismissed from job
According to the Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services’ 2006 annual report , which included disciplinary appeals heard that year, the SIU opened a criminal investigation into the then-constable in October 2003 over an alleged sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl.
“No criminal charges were brought; however, the (Durham Regional Police Service) continued with its disciplinary investigation.” the report noted.
He pleaded guilty to 10 counts of misconduct, but appealed his dismissal from the police service. However, his appeal was dismissed on Sept. 28, 2006.
