NYC hoops fans were finally able to party like it’s 1999 as the Knicks closed out a sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 130-93 romp Monday night, sending New York to the NBA Finals for the first time this century.

“@NYCSanitation. I’d like to report a sweep,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on X.

At Radio City Music Hall, fans erupted in cheers, some of them hoisting brooms, at a watch party celebrated the Knicks’ 11th straight playoff victory.

“I realized it was going to be a sweep in (Game 1). Cleveland was up 22 and we came back. That’s when we took their soul,” said Delince Pierre, 38, a physical fitness trainer from Brooklyn.

The Knicks now wait to see if they’ll play the  San Antonio Spurs or the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Watch party fans were eager for a rematch with the Spurs, the team that beat the Knicks the last time they reached the Finals in 1999. Knick fans have gone without a championship since 1973.

“I want the classic rematch with the San Antonio Spurs. It’s nostalgic, but this time it’s new blood versus new blood. We want to knock that tall Wemby tree down,” said Pierre, referring to the Spurs’ star player, Victor Wembanyama, who stands 7 feet and 4 inches tall.

Pierre wasn’t the only fan aching for a rematch.

“I want San Antonio. We got gentleman swept back in ‘99. I want the get back,” said Nyliah Morrison, 23, a barista and college student at LaGuardia College.

“Honestly, I knew the Knicks were going to sweep since game three against Atlanta. They’re using their bench and coach Mike Brown is flipping the offensive script,” said Morrison, who is from East New York in Brooklyn. “I love the energy, my voice is gone from screaming.”

Alan Sanders, 63, an attorney from Brooklyn, was feeling nostalgic. “The Knicks are on such an incredible role, they’re sharing the ball, they’re shooting from the floor better than any team we’ve seen in a long, long time. This is clearly the best Knicks of this generation,” Sanders said.

“I grew up on the Knicks of the early ‘70s,” he said. “You always hope, and now they’re back. Whoever they face in the West, they’re in for a war. It’s so great to have them in the finals for the first time in 27 years.”

“Go Knicks!” he added.
