The legendary U.S. warship the USS Hornet in Alameda County turns into a rambunctious furry camp for three days a year in San Francisco Bay.

According to the New York Post , the retired Naval ship, which defeated the Japanese and recovered Apollo 11, sees furries (people who dress in animal costumes and more) congregate at their summer convention, Galactic Camp, which runs from May 29-31.

The fursonas frolic amongst the ship’s museum, which has a kill board listing dozens of downed Second World War-era planes and did combat in Vietnam.

In 1943, the ship was launched as the successor to the Second World War sunken CV-8 version of the USS Hornet and was decommissioned after the Vietnam War in 1970.

Attendees to this year’s convention are being offered a furry scavenger hunt, Uno for funny animals, trash panda trashy karaoke, and R-rated “adult fursuit games” which involve “risque games with adult theme and toys.”

Convention fees vary for attendees

They can register for the convention at military-themed price levels: seaman for $80, petty officer for $150, and captain for $300.

At last year’s convention, one attendee wearing a baby blue deer head with yellow antlers referred to themselves in a video posted by Y outube/Breaking Stories with Kyle and Zeo as “transgen-deer.”

An older man who said he was a Vietnam veteran with furry ears said he isn’t a furry, but loves the “wonderful” energy of furries in the same video.

The USS Hornet appears to host some events to fund its housed museum including Carrier Con — an anime convention “celebrating cosplay, tabletop gaming, and Western and Japanese media” — in March.
