Alexander Nübel would like to stay at VfB Stuttgart, has no future at Bayern Munich
· Yahoo Sports
Alexander Nübel’s loan spell at VfB Stuttgart from Bayern Munich has officially ended with his last match for Swabians of the 2025/26 coming in the form of the 3-0 DFB-Pokal final loss to the German Rekordmeister. The keeper’s been on loan at Stuttgart since the summer of 2023 after his loan spell at AS Monaco had ended.

Ever since Nübel had joined Bayern from Schalke 04 back in 2020, things haven’t exactly been cut and dry and he’s had to navigate his way through loan spells to get consistent starting minutes. It became evidently clear during the 2020/21 season that Nübel was not going to get enough minutes behind Manuel Neuer as his contract from when he joined from Schalke had stipulated he would play at least ten matches per season. There were also accusations of favoritism from Nübel and his camp, highlighting disagreements with Bayern’s goalkeeping coaches at the time, but the rest is history and Nübel is now trying to figure out what’s next in his career.
Per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia_GER), there were talks between Stuttgart and Nübel’s representatives this past weekend as the keeper would like to stay with Stuttgart. In the loan deal with the Swabians, Bayern did not have a buy-on clause attached to the deal, but a permanent sale between the two Bundesliga clubs could wind up occurring and would most likely be what Nübel would want to do since there’s really no future for him at Bayern. Additionally, Bayern has put him up for sale, so Stuttgart will they could get him on a permanent deal for a decent price somewhere between 10 and 15 million euros.
One thing is for certain, Nübel’s future is either elsewhere from Bayern or bust as it has become abundantly clear the German champions to not have plans for him to be involved in the future. Neuer’s recent one-year extension pretty much assured things for Nübel as he had said he could imagine playing alongside Jonas Urbig at Bayern a few months ago, but that was before Neuer had made a decision on his future. Additionally, per information from Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia_GER), there was recently a secret meeting somewhere between Stuttgart and Munich where Bayern goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner made it clear that Nübel is not in Bayern’s plans whatsoever. Now, there’s nothing left to interpretation. Nübel needs to find another club this summer, whether it’s back to Stuttgart on a permanent deal, or somewhere else.
