Smith-Njigba had one of the greatest individual seasons in NFL history last season. The Texas native won the 2025 AP Offensive Player of the Year award, was named a first-team All-Pro honoree and won the Super Bowl at the end of the season. Following his big year, a groundbreaking feat is forecasted to be on the horizon for Smith-Njigba in 2026.

According to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport in his prediction of the eight biggest surprises of the 2026 NFL season, Smith-Njigba will become the first player in NFL history to record 150 receptions next season.

Former New Orleans Saints star WR Michael Thomas is the NFL’s single-season receptions leader. Thomas recorded 149 reception in 2019. Only three receivers in NFL history have recorded more than 140 REC in a season. Smith-Njigba had a prolific year in 2025 that resulted in him recording 119 receptions on the season.

The Seahawks have virtually the same receiving corp in tact from last season. Smith-Njigba will again demand a high target share in 2026, which will position him well to break the single-season receptions record, given his incredible 73 percent catch rate in each of the last two seasons.
