Kaizer Chiefs profess love for Mexico, troll Bafana Bafana

· The South African

Embittered Kaizer Chiefs fans are accused of trolling the Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup squad by backing Mexico on social media.

This comes after the country thanked South Africans for their support ahead of the tournament’s opening match next weekend.

Just one Amakhosi player, Bradley Cross, was selected in the 26-man squad that will represent the country.

MEXICAN NATIONAL TEAM THANKS SOUTH AFRICA

On their Facebook account, the Mexican national football team thanked South Africans for showing them love on social media.

The page’s administrators posted several screenshots of South Africans, particularly Kaizer Chiefs fans, who had professed their love for the country.

The post read: “Hey there, people from South Africa! We appreciate your enthusiasm in the comments. Can’t wait to see you again in the World Cup opening match! 🇲🇽🤝🇿🇦”

Bafana Bafana will play their opening match against Mexico at the Mexico City Stadium, also known as Estadio Azteca, on 11 June.

It will be the first time the countries meet in exactly 16 years.

On 11 June 2010, Mexico and South Africa played the opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which ended in a 1–1 draw.

KAIZER CHIEFS FANS OUTED AS IMPOSTORS

Responding to the Mexican national team were many South Africans who outed Kaizer Chiefs fans for trolling the Bafana Bafana squad, which largely consisted of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns players.

Football fan EI Peace Wale German commented: “With all due respect, those aren’t Bafana Bafana fans in the comments. Those are Kaizer Chiefs fans who are supporting Mexico against South Africa on the 11th. You‘d swear they’ve forgotten where they come from 😭💔. Rivalries aside, when Bafana Bafana plays, the badge on the chest should come before club loyalties”.

Many Amakhosi fans agreed with the observation.

Ntsiki Michaels commented: “Kaizer Chiefs fans not Bafana Bafana. We are the Mexican Chiefs”.

Lerato Lerato: “We told them Kaizer Chiefs is the biggest club”.

Amakhosi fans are likely irked by the fact that only one player – Bradley Cross – made the final cut in the Bafana FIFA World Cup squad.

Players like captain Brandon Petersen, Thabiso Monyane, and Lebohang Monyane were given the cold shoulder.

Those who made the squad largely came from Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
