It’s the second year in a row that the schools have met for college softball’s ultimate prize, and the Longhorns finished the job after two games this time around, after needing all three last year.

Texas center fielder Kayden Henry provided the big blast in the seventh inning, taking Red Raiders pitcher NiJaree Canady over the left-field wall for a solo home run to make it 3-1 Longhorns.

Leighann Goode provided an insurance run with an RBI single after Henry’s blast to score pinch runner Alisa Sneed for the final tally.

Ace pitcher Teagan Kavan entered in the sixth for the Longhorns and slammed the door shut on a Red Raiders comeback, striking out five of the six batters she faced to send fans in burnt orange into a frenzy.

Citlaly Gutierrez provided one of the best starts of her career in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts. She allowed an RBI single to Lauren Allred in the third inning, and briefly came out of the game after the frame for Hannah Wells. The Red Raiders loaded the bases with two outs against Wells, forcing Texas head coach Mike White to go back to Gutierrez in the circle. Mihyia Davis smoked a line drive to center field off Gutierrez, but Henry was in perfect position to snag it, ending the threat.

Down 1-0 in the fifth with one out, Texas Tech decided to load the bases with an intentional walk to slugger Katie Stewart. Viviana Martinez hit a sharp ground ball fielded by Red Raiders shortstop Hailey Toney, and her throw to third for a force out went wide of the bag, allowing Jaycie Nichols and Ashton Maloney to score for a 2-1 Texas lead.

Texas outhit the Red Raiders 8-4.
