German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann is changing it up a bit for this match vs. the USMNT:

Germany conquered Finland 4-0 in their most recent friendly. That match was held in Germany, and now the team is in America to play against the co-hosts who beat Senegal 3-2 last time out.

Die Mannschaft is gearing up to launch a bid to win the World Cup for the first time since 2014, and now they have the chance to show what they’ve got against formidable opposition.

  • The last time that Germany failed to win the final friendly match before the World Cup proper was way back on 19 April 1978 when they were known  as West Germany. That match ended in a 3-1 win for Sweden in Solna.

Three things to know about the USA:

  • The United States will host the World Cup for the first time since 1994, when they were the outright hosts.
  • The Stars and Stripes have participated in every World Cup from 1990 to 2014 but missed out in 2018; they returned in 2022.
  • The last time that the United States failed to win their final friendly match before the actual World Cup was back on 27 September 2022, a 0-0 draw against Saudi Arabia. If we’re talking about a defeat, it’s on 19 May 2002 which was a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
