Jacoby Brissett to end hold out, report to Arizona Cardinals mini-camp
· Yahoo Sports
The NFL offseason has featured several notable holdouts during the voluntary workout period. Among them, the Arizona Cardinals have found themselves in a puzzling standoff with quarterback Jacoby Brissett. While Brissett has skipped voluntary workouts, it appears his absence may soon come to an end.
According to reports, Brissett plans to end his holdout and report for mandatory minicamp. However, an important question remains: will his holdout transition into a “hold-in” situation? In that scenario, Brissett would attend team activities to avoid fines and penalties but participate only in a limited capacity while contract negotiations continue.

Players have used the hold-in strategy numerous times in recent years. It allows them to remain present for mandatory activities while minimizing injury risk as they seek a new contract. Given the circumstances, it would not be surprising if Brissett chose that approach.

He has no significant ties to the Cardinals’ new coaching staff, became the incumbent starter largely because Kyler Murray’s release appeared inevitable, and is not widely viewed as the franchise’s long-term answer at quarterback. That does not mean he shouldn’t pursue a new deal, but his approach has raised questions.

In Brissett’s absence, Arizona has had an opportunity to evaluate Gardner Minshew and rookie third-round pick Carson Beck. Neither quarterback may have done enough to seriously threaten Brissett’s position atop the depth chart, but they could have shown enough to influence his negotiating strategy.

Brissett should still be able to work toward a new contract while participating in a hold-in, and the two sides could ultimately reach an agreement. However, the specifics of his demands remain unclear. If negotiations have stalled for this long, it is reasonable to assume there is a significant gap between what Brissett wants and what the Cardinals are willing to offer.
