Interestingly, neither defending champion was ranked No. 1 in the first poll of the season. In Class B, reigning state champion Parkston Rays was tied for fourth with in-town rival Parkston Mudcats, who lead the Sunshine League standings with a 5-0 record.
The 2022, 2023 and 2024 champions — Dell Rapids Mudcats, Canova Gang and Dell Rapids PBR — are ranked No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, all from the Cornbelt League. PBR won the first all-Dells meeting, a 10-9 win on May 31, while Canova and the Mudcats had their May 17 game halted due to weather.
In Class A, the Harrisburg Woodies won the 2025 state championship over Renner, but the Monarchs are the early season No. 1 team, thanks in part to Renner's 3-1 win over Harrisburg on June 5.
