It’s always interesting to see how Notre Dame football is viewed nationally, and on Tuesday ESPN put some very high expectations on its future success.

Adam Rittenberg ranked every Power 4 team looking ahead to how well their programs are set up, and the Irish were placed in the top spot among the nation’s elite. The criteria he used was roster management, quarterback outlook, the offensive and defensive line projections, star power and coaching staff, and after he looked through all his data, Notre Dame was No. 1.
After being ranked No. 5 last year, the Irish made a significant jump and a lot of it has to do with what head coach Marcus Freeman has accomplished. He’s recruited the quarterback position at a level that we haven’t really seen in South Bend, with starter CJ Carr a Heisman front-runner and the backups more than capable of getting the job done.
The lines have always been a strength in South Bend, but the depth and youth puts them near the top in the country. Recruiting has been a huge key, but the additions in the transfer portal have put Notre Dame into elite status.
There are stars at almost every level, and keeping the coaching staff intact has been a huge boosts to Notre Dame future. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and defensive coordinator Chris Ash both return, giving stability to both sides of the ball.
Add this all up and you have to believe that Freeman will eventually break through and lead the Irish to a National Championship. The hope is that it will be this coming season, but if its not, there is no doubt in my mind that Notre Dame will win at least one over the next few seasons.
