Rookie RB Jadarian Price surprising Seahawks coaches with this skill

The Seattle Seahawks lost their MVP of Super Bowl LX earlier this offseason when Kenneth Walker III signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Not to worry, as Seattle immediately found his replacement in Jadarian Price with the 32nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Price may have been a "backup" to Jeremiyah Love during their shared time at Notre Dame, but had he not been playing behind one of the best running back prospects in recent years, he would have easily been a starter anywhere else in the country.

Minicamp is wrapping up in Seattle this week, and so far their top pick from the draft is showing off exactly why they stayed put at the No. 32 spot instead of trading back like they originally intended. However, according to NFL Networker reporter Steve Wyche, Price is surprising the Seahawks coaching staff with an unexpected skill: how well has caught the ball.
"Head coach Mike Macdonald told me all the athletic things they expected from Price: the speed, the balance, the cutting ability, he has shown all offseason. What they weren't expecting was the receiving ability! He only had 15 catches in three seasons at Notre Dame. Macdonald said not only is he catching the screens and dump-offs, but he's tracking the ball on intermediate and deep routes, and that is something they may be able to add to that new offense when it comes to Price."
Wyche of course did add the caveat that comes with all rookies, the concern being how much they will retain when it comes time for pads in training camp. The Seahawks will be off until July 25th, which is when their official training camp will kick off for the summer portion of the offseason.
Jadarian Price rushed for 1,692 yards and 21 total touchdowns during his days as a member of the Fighting Irish, including 11 scores his final season. However, Wyche is correct in stating he only caught 15 passes during this timeframe as well. However, Price did make the most of his limited opportunities, racking up 162 yards and three touchdowns as well.
Perhaps this is another situation similar to that of tight end AJ Barner, who we at Seahawks Wire reported as having untapped potential as a receiving threat when he was drafted. If new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury can unlock Price's skillset at catching the ball, Seattle could be an even bigger threat to opposing defenses than they already are.
