According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Phillies are sending two prospects to Chicago in exchange for veteran outfielder Derek Hill and international bonus money.
But why did the Phillies make this trade? There are a few reasons why, one of which is an unfortunate injury that might pose a serious problem for the team this season.
Why Phillies traded for Derek Hill from White Sox
"Trade news: The Philadelphia Phillies are acquiring center fielder Derek Hill and international bonus money from the Chicago White Sox for outfield prospect Dylan Campbell and infield prospect Jose Colmenares, sources tell ESPN," Passan reports.
This trade for the Phillies comes a day after Adolis Garcia, their right fielder who just started showing promise at the plate, came out of the game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a shoulder injury.
The full extent of the injury isn't known, but this trade one day later for a veteran outfielder is not a good sign for the former Texas Rangers slugger.

Hill is a 30-year-old veteran outfielder who is a right-handed hitter, and in 80 at-bats this season, has a .213 batting average with four homers and a .659 OPS. In his big league career, he has a .629 OPS and 18 homers.
Since the Phillies need a right-handed hitting outfielder and could also stand to benefit from extra depth, this move isn't a total surprise.
The two prospects the Phillies are giving up aren't the top prospects of the team, as Campbell (23 years old) has a .693 OPS this season, while Colmenares (24) has an .816 OPS this season.
This trade was made by Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies, most likely because of the Garcia injury and the general need for more outfield depth.
