Man, woman shot during Brampton home invasion; victim struck, killed by vehicle at brawl

A man and a woman were hospitalized after they were shot during an early Sunday morning home invasion in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police said both individuals are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Cops said emergency crews were called to a home near Ray Lawson Blvd. and Bent Tree Crt. in the Steeles Ave. W.-McLaughlin Rd. S. area shortly after 4 a.m.
Police said the shooting occurred during a home invasion. Cops alleged that at least two suspects armed with firearms entered the residence through the rear of the home while the occupants were asleep.
A confrontation occurred, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said, after the suspects entered the home, leading to shots being fired inside the residence.
Paramedics transported a man and a woman to a trauma centre. The suspects fled from the area and are still wanted. They were both wearing dark clothing and their faces were covered.
Bell-Morena said it’s unclear how many shots were fired as well as what type of firearm was used.
Police are asking residents with a doorbell camera or CCTV footage from the area to retain the video and contact investigators.
1 person dead after brawl in North York
Toronto Police have launched a homicide investigation after a person was struck and killed by a vehicle during a brawl involving a “large group of people” in North York early Sunday morning.
Police said officers were called to the Keele St.-Wilson Ave. area at about 6 a.m. for reports of a large group of people fighting. Supt. Jack Gurr said an argument broke out in the area and escalated into a fight involving multiple people.
Officers arrived and found a man who had been injured and struck by a vehicle. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures at the scene; however, the victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Police said a second person was also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and that the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
Investigators said a light-coloured vehicle was seen fleeing the area shortly afterward. Police said the vehicle and its occupants are still being sought.
Police have not released any suspect descriptions.

OPP safety blitz after 5 children killed in crash
Ontario Provincial Police are preparing to kick off a new public awareness campaign this week that highlights the dangers present at intersections.
The OPP said that from 2021 to 2025, almost 5,000 motor-vehicle collisions were recorded and about a quarter of those collisions were intersection related.
The safety blitz came as a rural Ontario community was dealing with the grief of a deadly crash on Friday night, where five children died .
The deadly crash happened Friday night at the intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Rd. 12 in Mapleton Township, northwest of Kitchener.
Investigators said that five children were killed and an infant was among the six people injured after a van carrying 10 people collided with an SUV and its sole occupant.
Officials said that those injured in the crash were still hospitalized, adding it could be days or weeks before more details about the collision are made public.
The OPP is continuing its investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Man, 24, dead following Whitby crash
A 24-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on a Hwy. 412 in Whitby early Sunday morning.
OPP said that emergency crews were called shortly after 4 a.m. to the Hwys. 401-412 area for reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle.
In a news release, police said the passenger was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was also transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators have not released any information about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Man stabbed in Union Station
A man was taken to a hospital following an early Sunday morning stabbing at Union Station.
Toronto Police said emergency crews were called to the downtown transit hub at about 12:45 a.m. following reports of a stabbing.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not released a description of the suspect, who remains outstanding.
