The Oklahoma Sooners have a ton of recruits on campus this weekend, and they don’t have a former Heisman winner to help.

The Oklahoma Sooners are having their biggest recruiting weekend in a long time. There are 15 recruits on campus for the 2027 recruiting class. 10 are already committed.

Linebacker Case Alexander, cornerback Trenton Blaylock, wide receiver Malahn Green, cornerback Jaiden Fields, and interior offensive lineman Jaxon Lawler are the five uncommitted players on campus this weekend. So, it's a pretty big weekend, to say the least. And, the Sooners don't have the biggest recruiting weapon on campus. Instead, he's on a different campus.

A picture was posted of former quarterback Baker Mayfield posing in South Bend, Indiana, where Notre Dame is also. No idea why, but it appears he was in town for a friend’s wedding. So, maybe it's fine he's not helping with recruiting.

Sooners don't actually need Baker Mayfield to help with recruiting

They really don't need his help, but you can't deny how much of a weapon he is at recruiting. Imagine these kids get on campus and meet a former Heisman quarterback who is currently a top-15 QB in the NFL. That helps.

Luckily, the Sooners have plenty of other ways to sell recruits this weekend. As posted on social media, these recruits get tons of gifts in their hotel room when they arrive in Norman. They load these recruits up with gear from the school. Then they also get to see all of the legendary players that have come through Norman, whether it's one of the many statues outside the stadium or the trophies in the halls.

And Brent Venables has a way he recruits, and it's what's gotten them the No. 1 class in 2027. They actually care about these kids. They actually build and establish a relationship. Do they pay players? Yes. Just like every team. But they still have a bit of an old-school recruiting feel to it all. They care about these players, and it really feels like they're all part of a family.
