Ashok Sharma moves from Rajasthan to Gujarat

JAIPUR: In a major setback for Rajasthan cricket, promising pace bowler Ashok Sharma has decided to represent Gujarat in domestic cricket from the next season. The departure hurts even more as Rajasthan’s premium pace battery, featuring Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed and Aniket Choudhary, is heavily depleted.

Frequent injuries to Deepak and Khaleel have left 36-year-old Aniket as the lone mainstay, and the aging domestic stalwart is likely playing his last upcoming domestic season.

Right-arm pacer Ashok, who played for Gujarat Titans in the recently concluded IPL 2026 and gained a lot of praise for his raw pace, cited better opportunities as the reason for the move. “For better opportunities I decided to move to Gujarat,” Ashok told TOI.

The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has granted him a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Ashok made his senior debut for Rajasthan in Dec last season. In four First Class matches, he picked up 14 wickets. He was particularly effective in white-ball cricket, claiming 22 wickets in 16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 games and 13 wickets in seven Vijay Hazare Trophy one-dayers.

In another blow to the state’s bowling stocks, pacer Ganesh Suthar, who had an outstanding Under-23 season last year, has decided to play for Haryana and has received an NOC from RCA.

Ganesh was the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the CK Nayudu Trophy in 2025-26, bagging 37 wickets in just eight matches. A source revealed that he, too, chose to move out in search of better opportunities.
