When Real Madrid appointed a manager like Jose Mourinho, they would have known that the Portuguese legend would ask the club for specific signings to suit his style.
Florentino Perez has done a very good job of getting him the players he wants so far, signing the likes of Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva.
Now, according to AS, Mourinho pushed hardest for Bernardo and asked Real Madrid to do everything possible to bring him in, with the club then moving quickly to finalise the signing.
The Portuguese midfielder has agreed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, with an option for one more year depending on appearances.
Mourinho gets a player built for control
Bernardo is exactly the type of footballer Mourinho has often valued: clever, intense, tactically flexible and comfortable in big matches.

He can play as an attacking midfielder, wide creator or interior, and that gives Real Madrid more ways to manage difficult games.
At 31, this is not a signing about resale value or long-term development. It is about immediate quality. Real Madrid already have explosive talent, but Bernardo brings pause, rhythm and decision-making in the final third.
Mourinho values his versatility, experience, leadership and winning mentality. This squad has brilliance, but every great team also needs players who can slow the chaos down and make the right pass under pressure.
A smart move, not just a famous name

His age means Los Blancos must manage the physical side carefully, and he should not block younger players who need room to grow. But on a short contract, this looks like an unbelievable deal.
