Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s stretch in a Texas jail is coming to an end, but it wasn’t without its bumps.
Rice, 26, is scheduled for release Tuesday.
One bump concerned his knee. Just before he was sent to the Dallas County Jail on May 19, Rice had knee surgery. His lawyer requested a court order to allow Rice to receive treatment while locked up.
“The Court grants the Defendant’s request and recommends the Sheriff’s Department to provide the Defendant transportation to Parkland for knee therapy,” the May 28 court order said.
Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas County’s public hospital, didn’t perform Rice’s knee surgery, but it was used for “outside medical needs,” Rice’s lawyer, Thomas McMurray, told KCUR.
How Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Will Spend His Summer Break | Forbes
“If you stay in the city, you’re going to dive in and do stuff — at least I am,” Reid exclusively shared from the State Farm shoot. “I’m better when I get away.”
Of course, Reid, who is known for his work ethic, which can include burning the midnight oil with film review or going to the Chiefs’ facility before sunrise, will not completely unplug.
But he’ll do so in an idyllic setting.
“It’s a lot easier looking at the waves,” he said. “It keeps you in a good environment.”
Instead of his 12 hours or so of a typical workday, Reid said he might spend an hour or two breaking down film or on play design.
“Out of a 24-hour day, that’s not bad,” he said. “It’s not intense or all of that. That’s not what it is.”
Every NFL Offense’s Best- and Worst-Case Scenario in 2026 | Bleacher Report
Kansas City Chiefs
2025 Rank: 20th
Best-Case Scenario: Kenneth Walker Steadies the Ground Game with Patrick Mahomes at 100 Percent
The once-vaunted Kansas City Chiefs offense had two big problems in 2025, even before Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL tear. They lacked reliable pass-catchers who could generate big plays, and they struggled to field a functional ground game.
Ideally, the offseason addition of reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III will take care of the second problem. While Kansas City’s receiving corps is still questionable, the Chiefs will need Mahomes to be healthy and at 100 percent for most of the season to significantly rebound in the passing game.
Fortunately, Mahomes is recovering well and was even a participant at OTAs.
If Walker can deliver a top-tier rushing attack and Mahomes can, well, be Mahomes, Kansas City should return to having an above-average offense.
Worst-Case Scenario: The Receiving Corps Isn’t Functional
Even if Mahomes is healthy, that won’t be enough to guarantee a potent passing attack. Kansas City’s receiving corps wasn’t nearly good enough in 2025, and the Chiefs have done nothing to address it, aside from drafting Cyrus Allen in the sixth round.
Top receiver Rashee Rice, meanwhile, is recovering from knee surgery and had his rehab interrupted when he was ordered to serve a 30-day jail sentence for violating his probation. The depth behind Rice at receiver is shaky—Xavier Worthy is the only other returning wideout who topped 500 yards last season—and star tight end Travis Kelce (36) isn’t getting any younger.
In a worst-case scenario, Mahomes is healthy enough to make Kansas City playoff-relevant, but the Chiefs simply lack the skill players to be an actual postseason threat.

NE trades WR Kayshon Boutte to KC for 2027 5th Round Pick
As I mentioned in the Douglas trade idea, New England has a surplus of depth receivers, and Boutte seems to be the most obvious trade candidate. While it would hurt to make a deal with the devil, Kansas City is a team with the need for Boutte and the quarterback to help his career flourish.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Boutte involved in his own trade talks, as he’ll be looking for a place to maximize his talents. The Chiefs have Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton atop their depth chart. They have a need at receiver, and would likely be willing to offer better draft capital than other teams would for the former LSU wide out.
A fifth-round pick seems a reasonable price tag for Boutte, but it isn’t impossible the Patriots look to add a player in the deal. Perhaps a seventh-round selection and former first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah could get the deal done? They were able to resurrect K’Lavon Chaisson’s career, so having another bite at the apple wouldn’t be a bad idea, either.

Sources: Brendan Sorsby plans to enter NFL supplemental draft | ESPN
Texas Tech transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Monday.
Sorsby’s decision comes amid legal wrangling over his NCAA eligibility after he admitted to betting on college sports. Last week, Sorsby was granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA that would clear the way for him to play for the Red Raiders in 2026, even after he was declared ineligible.
Sorsby, who has admitted to betting on college football, placed more than 9,000 bets, totaling at least $90,000, over three years while he was enrolled at Indiana, Cincinnati and Texas Tech, including at least 40 wagers involving his team, according to court documents. The NCAA has not seen evidence that Sorsby manipulated his performance, used inside information to make his wagers or shared privileged information with bettors, according to the documents.
Under Texas judge Ken Curry’s ruling, Sorsby could play for Texas Tech after sitting out the first two games of the season, while being required to continue addiction treatment.
Cam Jordan to meet with Saints on Tuesday after progress in contract talks | Pro Football Talk
Free agent Cam Jordan is meeting with the Saints on Tuesday to discuss a potential return, his former teammate, Terron Armstead, said on “The Set.”
Matthew Paras of nola.com reports that the sides have made progress in contract talks after General Manager Mickey Loomis has met with Jordan on multiple occasions this offseason.
The Saints begin their mandatory minicamp Tuesday.
Jordan, 36, became a free agent in March, and while he has expressed interest in returning to New Orleans, he also said he was open to the idea of playing elsewhere.
The Saints added veteran pass rushers Tyree Wilson and Anfernee Jennings, but Jordan made 10.5 sacks last season. It was his first double-digit sack season since 2021.
James Pearce Jr. returns to Falcons for minicamp physical amid intervention program | NFL.com
Pearce’s return to the team comes after he agreed in April to enter a pretrial intervention program to resolve three felony charges against him stemming from a February domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend, WNBA player Rickea Jackson.
Atlanta wrapped up the voluntary portion of its offseason program last Thursday and kicks off its three-day mandatory sessions on Tuesday.
Pearce, 22, was arrested near Miami on Feb. 7 after the incident with Jackson. Pearce was charged with three felony counts — aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding police and resisting an officer with violence — as well as a misdemeanor count of stalking.
Pearce was not at the Falcons’ voluntary workouts in early April.
In late April, Pearce entered a six-month pre-trial intervention program that could result in all charges being dismissed if all conditions are met. The agreement, which includes no jail time and no admission of guilt, was made in consultation with Jackson and the city of Doral, Florida.

Chiefs players under the most pressure heading into 2026 season
Cornerback Nohl Williams
Williams figures to be the starter at one of the boundary cornerback spots, replacing Jaylen Watson. Watson was a really good starter for the Chiefs, so Williams has a high bar to clear.
Williams had some good snaps to close the season last year, but he’s going to have to prove he can hang in there for a full schedule with many more meaningful matchups than in 2025.
Safety Chamarri Conner
The Chiefs signed Kadar Kohou and drafted Jadon Canady as options to play in the slot this season, which should hopefully relieve Conner from having to do that. Conner is a useful player, but he’s been overtasked in the slot for two years. He struggles to cover anyone in space from that spot, which is why the team added more coverage-oriented players in Kohou and Canady.
Conner figures to move back to deep safety, which is a more natural spot for him.
Conner is now the most tenured member of the secondary, and he needs to be a more solid player at safety if defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is going to continue trusting him to the level he has shown in recent years. The Chiefs’ safety options besides Alohi Gilman are unproven. The unit’s performance could teeter based on how well Conner plays alongside Gilmn as the projected starting safeties.
