MLB released their second All-Star balloting update Monday, and it showed four Dodgers are in the driver’s seat in their respective position. Freddie Freeman has 1,779,538 votes, leading all NL first basemen by a wide margin, Max Muncy has more than double the next closest player’s votes at third base, Shohei Ohtani has the most votes of any player in MLB and Andy Pages still leads the vote in the outfield.

Elsewhere on the diamond, Will Smith ranks second in catcher votes behind Drake Baldwin, and Mookie Betts ranks second among shortstop behind CJ Abrams.

Ohtani also led MLB in votes during after the first All-Star ballot, and is still on track to earn the most in MLB for the first time in his career. He is one of two players to have more than 2 million votes, the other being the Toronto Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement.

Freeman, Muncy and Pages all led their positions during the last All-Star balloting update as well, and are keeping their pace.

How Does MLB Determine All-Star Starters?

The All-Star voting process is currently in Phase 1, which allows fans to vote for any player they’d like to make an All-Star appearance at this year’s Midsummer Classic. Phase 1 ends June 25 at 9:00 a.m. PT.

After Phase 1, the top two vote receivers from every infield position and top five outfielders from each respective league advance to Phase 2. In Phase 2, voters can only vote among the finalists from the previous round, and the winners earn their spot as a starter on the All-Star team.

After that, voting is completely out of the fans’ hands. Peer voting through the Player Ballot and selections made by the Commissioner’s Office will fill out the remainder of the 32-man team.

The Dodgers sent five players to the All-Star Game in Atlanta last season, and are well on their way to doing so once again this year.
