An ‘Exclusive’ if you will.
Probably best if you take a seat.
To all Newcastle United fans I have this revelation for you.
Not everything that is written and said in the media is true.
I repeat, not everything that is written and said in the media is true…
Obviously not a revelation for some of you but apparently this will be a breaking news exclusive for a significant number of Newcastle United fans.
There is one very special group of Newcastle United fans and these are the ones who will repeatedly slag off the media for making stuff up all the time, BUT then when it suits them, the same fans suddenly choose to believe EVERYTHING they read and hear that fits their narrative.
We all knew that this was a huge summer, one where building blocks needed to be put in place to try and ensure that the 2026/27 season would see Newcastle United get back on track in terms of Premier League form.
The fact that the 2025/26 season ended on such a negative note, has then led to so many Newcastle United fans desperate to keep that negative narrative going, willing to believe every negative NUFC story that appears in the media.
Take a deep breath and step back a moment from the media deluge.
The things we know are true
Before the 2025/26 season ended we were told that Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, John Ruddy and Emil Krafth were leaving at the end of their contracts this summer.
Long before the end of the 2025/26 season, Newcastle United made clear they would be selling Anthony Gordon and gave permission for his agents to talk to other clubs and set up an early summer departure. Barcelona meeting Newcastle’s £70m asking price and Gordon leaving.
Fabian Schar agreed a new contract and will remain at Newcastle United until at least 30 June 2027.
Lewis Miley agreed a new six-year contract that takes him up to the end of June 2032.
France Under 21 goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen signed for NUFC in a £24m deal from Stade de Reims.
Newcastle United had a bid accepted by Osasuna for winger Victor Munoz but he chose to sign for Liverpool instead.
A new three year deal was belatedly agreed with Knox Hydrate for them to be front of shirt sponsor, the deal worth around £60m.
Adidas released a new 2026/27 Newcastle United home shirt that doesn’t have proper stripes.
A new season ticket waiting list has been set up and almost 50,000 Newcastle United members have officially joined the queue.

What the media are saying
My understanding is all of those things I have listed above are true.
So what about everything else? The endless headlines, endless exclusives, countless articles, countless claims, pretty much all of them negative for the consumption of Newcastle United fans.
The problem, well one of them, with modern media is that we are bombarded with so much. Bombarded with so much that is based on so little substance.
If you don’t believe me, think about all of the previous summers and the countless negative stuff that was published for the consumption of Newcastle United fans, especially regarding players definitely going to be leaving. How much of it turned out to be true?
I would be amazed if more than one in a hundred of those negative stories in past summers carried any truth, anything new, and the same I absolutely believe is the case this summer.
A lot of Newcastle United fans end up believing stuff must be true because they hear it from so many different ‘sources’, when the truth is that in the overwhelming number of cases you are simply having a journalist make something up and then hundreds, if not thousands, blindly repeating the same thing. The ones who are less than totally lazy might make up extra bits themselves to try and convince their audience and get attention.
This is the tenth transfer window under Eddie Howe and these Newcastle United owners and certainly every summer window we have been told by the media that all of our best players were leaving.
The first nine windows saw only Alexander Isak leave, in terms of players Newcastle United didn’t choose to willingly sell and the media proved correct, eventually.
This summer window Newcastle United clearly chose to sell Anthony Gordon.
I am not complacent, of course Newcastle United need to do things this summer to improve our chances of success in the 2026/27 season, including bringing in a significant number of credible signings on top of Ewen Jaouen. I think Ross Wilson and Eddie Howe will have a positive transfer window when it comes to new signings but of course we want to be reassured by some of them arriving earlier rather than later.
Will negative stuff happen as well for Newcastle United fans to despair? Maybe they will, maybe they won’t.
We can only deal with facts and what we know to be the truth. It is exactly five weeks since the 2025/26 season ended, in two weeks’ time the Newcastle United squad return to the training ground to begin pre-season preparations, whilst it is exactly eight weeks until United kick off against Liverpool in the first Premier League match of the season.
A lot will happen by the time we get to that St James’ Park opener BUT thousands and thousands of headlines that will appear before then will prove to be absolute garbage. Pure made up fantasy stuff for those in the media to get attention and make money. Simple as.
Newcastle United fans have become so overwhelmed by the media nonsense (and the heat doesn’t help!) that not so long ago I saw one NUFC supporter demanding that Lewis Hall had a duty to come out and make a public statement that he was still committed to Newcastle United, this in reaction to some absolute nonsense claiming the lifelong (Newcastle!!!) United fan was forcing his way out to join Man U for £40m…
If the players and the club had to do this every time something was made up in the media we would be sick to the back teeth of hearing from them about their commitment!
I am not a happy clapper, I am just somebody who recognises what history tells us from past summers as Newcastle United fans. The decade and a half ofMike Ashley I feared the worst every summer and normally this proved to be with good reason!
Recent summers that hasn’t been my mindset and summer 2026 is no different. I think everybody inside Newcastle United is now working to try and make the team and club successful in the short and long-term, so I won’t have the media turning me into someone who will only believe negative stuff is inevitable.
