Draper, ranked fourth in the world last year, was due to play sixth seed Taylor Fritz on Tuesday but has withdrawn from the tournament.

The 24-year-old had Andy Murray as his coach for Wimbledon, but follows Emma Raducanu in withdrawing from his home grand slam.

Draper has suffered a relapse of the arm injury that forced him to miss seven months of the tour between August and February.

"Devastated to share that I have had to withdraw from my first round match due to a recurrence of my arm injury,” Draper said.

"There have been a lot of painful moments in the last 12 months but this one is definitely the absolute worst as there is no greater honour for a British player than playing at Wimbledon.

"I will continue to persevere through this. Thank you for the support!"

Draper was scheduled to play Fritz, the fifth seed, on Centre Court on Tuesday.

After suffering a knee injury at the Barcelona Open in April, Draper made his comeback at Eastbourne last week and won three matches before defeat to Ugo Humbert in the semi-finals on Friday.

He gave no indication that he was injured when he trained and spoke to journalists at Wimbledon on Sunday.

He said: “I would say that my power, is in a really good place. I'm moving great. I still say I'm far from perfect. I'm getting there.

“It's been an incredibly long process. It's taken a lot out of me mentally coming back and coming back and coming back.

“At the same time I feel like I'm in a position now where I can compete at a really high level and really compete with the best players.”
